About me

I was born and raised in the beautiful county of Kent in the South East of England and I have lived here all my life.

My childhood and teenage years were spent in my parents' house, which backed onto an area of fields, chalk downland and scrub. As a child I had more freedom than today’s youngsters and was often allowed to roam the banks for most of the day. I remember long summer days hunting for lizards, grass snakes and slow worms among the grass. They seemed much more plentiful then.
I also remember being fascinated by the kestrels that would hover effortlessly over the downland in search of small furry creatures to feed themselves and their young, I remember drawing them even then.
Frequent camping holidays to the New Forest and the coasts of Devon and Cornwall led to encounters with more exotic birds like peregrine falcons. Those experiences made a deep impression on me and helped form a love of nature, birds in particular, which has never left me.

The majority of my work is inspired by the wildlife and habitats that surround me. We are lucky in Kent to have such a variety of habitats and wildlife to enjoy, from coastline, saltmarsh, rivers and estuaries to woodland, chalk downland and farmland as well as the urban areas which can be surprisingly rich in wildlife. I have also been lucky enough to have travelled several times to Singapore and Indonesia where every day was filled with new and exotic sights and sounds and exciting new animals, insects and of course birds. I have featured some of these in my paintings and I'm sure there will be many more to come.

I work almost exclusively in oils these days but I worked for many years in acrylics and I had worked before that in both watercolours and coloured pencils.

In 2010 I won the British birds category of the BBC wildlife artist of the year competition. I have won awards with the Wildlife Art Society International and exhibited at the prestigious SWLA Exhibition in the Mall Galleries. I exhibited at Country and game fairs up and down the UK with Birds! Birds! Birds! gallery and I was a regular exhibitor in the Art Marquee at the Falconry Fair.

I am currently seeking gallery representation so if any gallery owners would like to work with me then please get in touch!
